There are over 25,000 Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) trained in the UK each year, many of whom can not always find a permanent position in their desired location, from which they can compete induction.

Supreme Education work in partnership with Local Authorities across the UK in order to support and help find work on a day to day and long term supply basis across all settings: Nursery, Primary, Secondary, SEN and Pupil Referral Units (PRUs). We try to assists NQTs to find a position from which they can work towards successfully passing their induction year and gaining valuable experience in school, providing the post is for one term or more and the Headteacher is aware of your induction need at the start of the assignment.

Important information for NQTs on supply assignments

The statutory induction regulations that govern the legal employment of NQTs in state maintained schools state that NQTs that have not yet passed induction can only work for 16mths on day to day supply work from the date of your first assignment after gaining QTS

Any NQT on a contract or assignment of 1 term of more should be subject to statutory induction, even if this is on a supply basis and this is something Supreme Education ensures schools are aware of when putting you into assignments

Many NQTs find their perfect permanent positions after working on several supply assignments in different schools and at Supreme Education we encourage schools to make our NQTs aware of permanent teaching roles that are suitable for them.

Extending your 16 month limit for supply teaching as an NQT

If you are reaching the 16 month limit for day to day supply teaching as an NQT, then you need to contact the 'Appropriate Body' (AB) in the Local Authority you want to keep working in. If you can show that you have been trying to secure a long term or permanent role from which you can complete induction, but have not been successful, then usually you will be granted up to a further 12 month maximum extension for day to day supply work.

The AB within a Local Authority will usually have their details on the NQT pages for that Local Authority or can be reached by going through the Local Authorities switchboard and asking for the Standards or Schools Human Resource Team.
