Overseas Trained Teachers

Any overseas trained teacher (OTT) wishing to work as a qualified teacher in England must hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Teachers who qualified overseas and outside of the European Economic Area (EEA)can work as a 'temporary teacher' for a maximum of 4 years without QTS, from the date of their first day teaching in a maintained school or non-maintained special school in England and Wales. If you were trained in part of the EEA, you will be eligible for QTS without further assessment. For further information, go to the General Teaching Council for England (GTC)website, or contact them on 0870 001 0308.

Supreme Education welcomes applications from Overseas Trained Teachers and work closely with our International Division and individual UK offices to recruit and place quality, security check and professional qualified teachers from various countries. Placements range from day-to-day, long-term and permanent placements in the schools that we represent. There are many factors that will affect your ability to work in UK schools and our expert consultants are well placed to advise you if your experience and individual situation will allow you to work on a supply basis.

"I have worked with Supreme Education for five terms now and have always been impressed with the professional service I have received. I mainly work with a small number of schools but should I need to widen my experience, I know that the team, will pull out all the stops to ensure that I am matched to work which is stimulating and rewarding. The at a glance on line system enables me to keep a track of work, plus it enables me to block out any days that I am unavailable with a minimum of fuss. All in all a highly recommended service."

Assessment for QTS

It is recommended that OTTs try to gain around 2 years experience in the UK before going for assessment for QTS and you will need to either secure a long term supply or permanent position in order to undertake this assessment.

Supreme Education can help you build up this experience through day to day and long term supply work with a view to helping you secure a permanent position in school in the longer term from which you can undertake assessment and gain your Qualified Teacher Status.
