The Virtual Teacher Centre has a range of resources suitable for supporting the needs of foundation stage pupils in it's inclusion area.

Most of the subject guidance about inclusion relates to 5 - 16 year olds but the general guidance is relevant to teachers of this age group. See guidance on gifted and talented pupils.

Two key stages cover this age range: key stage 1 from 5 - 7 (Years 1 and 2) and key stage 2 from 7 - 11 (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6)

How do I plan a series of lessons?

The National Key Stage 3 Strategy provides Frameworks to guide planning in English, Mathematics, science and ICT.

Science and ICT also have schemes of work, which you should use alongside the Frameworks. For all other subjects use the schemes of work alongside the Key Stage 3 Strategy guidance on Teaching and learning in foundation subjects (TLF).

What do I have to teach?

The requirements for this stage are changing. For the latest information see the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority's (QCA) guidance on statutory requirements. This information applies to 11-16 schools and schools with 6th forms. If you are teaching in a college, select the Colleges' link on the page for relevant information. For specific subject requirements refer to the National Curriculum document for your subject or area of interest.

An explanation of the range of qualifications available to this age group is provided by the QCA. To find more information about specific qualifications in your subject follow the links from this webpage to the websites of the relevant awarding body or use the QCA's searchable database of accredited courses. If you are not sure of the course title or the awarding body, look in the lists of accredited courses accessible from the subjects page.
