Support Staff
Support staff are playing an increasingly important role in
schools and other education institutions.
Recent government initiatives such as Remodelling of
the School Workforce and the Workload
Agreement have placed much emphasis on support workers.
It is expected that the support workers will play a crucial
role in the delivery of such initiatives and be significant
players in the continuing drive to raise standards.
The emphasis on support workers has led to an increasing
demand nationwide and Supreme Education has been instrumental
in helping many individuals obtain employment in a support
role.
If you would like to be considered for support roles, such

Working as a Teaching Assistant with Supreme Education
If you're an experienced Teaching Assistant, or suitably
qualified for this vital support role, then we have the
positions and opportunities to suit you.
Increased government funding in recent years has led to the
recruitment of thousands of paid, professional teaching
assistants in our schools. They support the teacher as well as
the pupil, and are involved with many different aspects of
classroom activities.
Many of the Teaching Assistants working through Supreme
Education hold specific qualifications, perhaps in child care
or in learning support work, or indeed relevant degrees. Others
have substantial experience of working with children.
They enjoy a varied and fulfilling role. While the majority
of our Teaching Assistants work in primary schools and special
needs situations, often taking on one-to-one responsibility
with specific children, there is also a growing use of such
staff in secondary schools.
For degree graduates, it can provide a useful employment
option; an insight into life in the classroom; and even the
start of a route towards Qualified Teacher Status, through the
Graduate and Registered Teacher Programme (GRTP).
Working as a Teaching Assistant is a rewarding job, and
Supreme Education has the supply opportunities to meet your
specific needs.

Teaching Assistants Manual!
Everyone agrees that the role of the teaching assistant is
growing in importance. It was this exciting development which
prompted us to publish our best-selling How to be a Successful
Teaching Assistant in 2002. At that time, there was nothing to
help teaching assistants to understand their role.
In 2001/2, Ofsted reviewed the role of teaching assistants
and found that, in primary schools, the quality of teaching was
better when there was a teaching assistant in the classroom. At
Supreme Education we have seen some of these improvements at
first hand. We intend to continue to explore ways in which we
can help support staff to improve the quality of pupils'
learning.
There is now a range of qualifications available for
teaching assistants and this guide covers the requirements for
NVQs at levels 2 and 3. Whether you are just starting out as a
teaching assistant or are already more experienced, we hope
that you will find How to be a Successful Teaching Assistant to
be an invaluable introduction to the role.
